Anybody?

Besides building trust and fending off illness, is there anything, any thing at all, that can not be accomplished by the skillful use of deception?

Finding something that can't be done by just simply lying.
Except for politicians, is there anything?

Be honest, most people don't know the truth. Use it to your advantage.

Assume I'm planning to use skillful lying as a [purely defensive] weapon. This forum's answers will help me "get the bugs out" before I go up against politicians, salespeople, mortgage lenders, con men, etc..

It's weird to me, because: You don't need to lie to anyone.

If you don't want to deal with certain people, or you don't trust them, then don't waste your time.
Just tell them, you are not interested in what they are trying to offer, or trying to sell....

...Why would anyone want to waste even a second of their life with a con-man, or any other person, that they feel, they cannot trust?

It almost sounds like you are asking: "How do I stoop to their level?"

Yoyizit:

Don't be dumb.

You can fake emotions, and you can lie through your teeth, but you cannot change reality.

Anyone who wants to check up on you is just going to check the facts you present to them and find out if they're real or bogus.

Deception is simply no match for careful scrutiny. Someone who wants to call your bluff will succeed if he investigates you and your claims with good scrutiny.

That is: A stupid person will assume that everyone else is about as sharp as he is, and will come to the conclusion that he can probably get away with lying. A smart person will make exactly the same assumption, and will therefore come to the opposite conclusion.
