I have no idea, how many roofs I've been on - (Somewhere in the thousands)
All I know is what happened.
I wouldn't wish that experience on enemies!
Only, relating what happened -
One of the nastiest, surprises I've ever gone through!
OK - maybe, it was only 8 ft. by 8 ft., or 9 ft. by 9 ft. -
I wasn't going to stop and measure it exactly.
Happy Holidays!

(This happened a long time ago)

The house next door to me had a complete tear off this past summer and new shingles put on. It looked nice!

One week later some trucks pulled up in the driveway and in front of their house and I thought they were back to put the new siding on.

Nope! The new owner of the house wasn't satisfied with the job that was done, so he made the company come back and tear off all of the new shingles and re-do it. He also showed up several times that day to check their work.

I talked to him after that and he said the owner of the company fired the whole crew and brought in his experienced guys. The original crew looked like a bunch of kids.

Now that's a catastrophe!!!

At least, my "mishap" got me a couple of weeks off work!
First "vacation"? I had in 10 years!
"Silver Lining"!

The company I worked for had a re-roof to do -
West side of Aurora, Ill. - 20 to 25 sq's -
The address on the work-order got transposed (6 becomes 9) -
Roof top delivery - the roofing crew was waiting (8 to 10 people) -
Done that day.
Wrong house!
A lot of houses in that area were identical.

My boss went out and talked to the homeowners, of the house we had
mistakenly roofed -
Luckily, my boss and the homeowners had mutual friends -
He showed them the mistake on the work order.
At least everybody was laughing!
They came to an agreement for the cost of the materials -
payments over time.
At least we got the cost of the materials!!
I did have to counter-flash the chimney with copper.
The roofing crew got paid - of course.
Stuff happens!!!
