Aggravating --No NAME NO NUMBER CALLS

I wonder if there is a way to allow one certain number....

I'd like to block everything that's not a regular listed number but for some reason every time someone calls me from skype it shows up as "000000123456789" haha.

Not only can I block, but I can select how it is blocked (busy signal, blocked call message, stop calling message) or forward the calls (rejection hotline, back to themselves, etc.).
I can also schedule times for a "white list", where a prescribed list of numbers will ring, all others go to voicemail.

That is pretty neat. Eventually I want to setup a voip server and do similar things at my house.

Aggravating --No NAME NO NUMBER CALLS

To all my friends be aware that when I answer the phone
I try to sell you "something".

Rest assured that if I know you I do want your call.

For example today when a telemarketer called and said

"may I speak to the man or lady of the house" I replied:
"I have (had to think of something real fast)crochet
hooks for sale so if you will leave your name address
and telephone number I will send you the crochet hooks
and a bill."
I could her say, "well I will try you later.

Yesterday when they called to sell me solar collectors
like they do EVERY DAY for months er, for about two
years now, I told them "I have a business named RFS
and we sell and install solar collectors", I then
proceeded to ask them how business is doing and what is
your profit margin, how much are you able to scam out
of people.
I hear the funniest responses. and they hang up..

SO!! If you hear me doing this just talk over me and say "Hey Gail this is xxx". and I'll stop

Now, instead of being annoyed after another miserable interrupting call and getting into a bad mood, I end the call laughing uncontrollably and walk around with a smile on my face..

If life gives you lemons..

Aggravating --No NAME NO NUMBER CALLS

This thread hasn't seen daylight in quite some time!

I got a call the other day from a telemarketer.

She asked if I was the administrator of this daycare business and I told her, "I am the chief cook and bottle washer". She said, "pardon me?" I repeated what I'd said and added, "I'm also the CEO, potty trainer, COO, janitor, CAO, president, vice president, administrator, head chef, teacher, child referee and toy-picker-upper".

She seemed confused and offered me something that had to do with web design. I told her I do that too (that part was a fib) and to have a nice day. Then I said goodbye and hung up. She hasn't called me back yet... *knock on wood*.

For those of you who get these calls, if you have the time to screw with them, the best thing to do is to eat up as much of their time as you can and have some fun with it.

This is the absolute worst thing you can do... pretend to be interested in their product.. ask LOTS of questions that have easy answers and act like your IQ is around 70 to 90... Just smart enough to not be in a special residents home, but too dumb to comprehend.

I remember when I used to get calls for the special auto repair extended warranty scam.. Oh man.. I was pulling weeds in the garden while talking to them.. (blue tooth in my ear)... I kept that idiot on the phone for near 40 minutes while pretending to give him all the information he wanted.

Q. What kind of vehicle do you have sir?
A. Oh, I have a bright blue Chevy Ram truck...
(there's a good 2 minutes just straightening that one out!)

Q. How many miles are on the truck sir?
A. Umm.. Usually about 65 at the most..
Q. Only 65 miles?
A. Yes.. Sometimes 70 but if I go any faster I can get a ticket..

Most were smart enough to figure out that I string them along after about 10 minutes.. but its like a game to see how far i can go.

Each time someone does this, it costs the telemarketing company twice.. Once for the wasted employee's time, and again because they aren't bothering someone else...

Do this to them a few times and they will remove your number and blacklist you... talk about a do-not-call list that works!

Bye the way.. its illegal for them to call your cell phone... but that doesn't stop them really..

I had one call and ask about my computer. Told her that I didn't have one, they are evil. She hung up.

[QUOTE=PaulBob;1384271]For those of you who get these calls, if you have the time to screw with them, the best thing to do is to eat up as much of their time as you can and have some fun with it.

my sister topped you on the time. My nephew worked at a company that TOOK calls --not made them. He was new and the guy over the partition called him and wasted 30 minutes like this. Nephew lost time he could have been working productively.

My sister was so p***** she called the company and got this guy 'real good'.
she said "she needed a loan to build a tunnel from her house to mine. Kept him on the line 45 minutes. He was muting the phone often and bragging he had a real live one, but kinda koo koo. Eventually she said 'look over the partition and don't mess with my son again or you will get a lot more calls like this" said goodbye and hung up. He never screwed with the newbies again. My nephew had a good laugh. Call would have lasted longer but she was getting bored.

Actually my sis and I had been looking for houses next to each other and would have devised some sort of thing so our cats could go to each others' houses without either of us going outside in 107 degree heat , not to mention getting 3 Siamese into cages . Maybe we both are a little koo.

There was a thread like this on another site but I cannot find it, searching led me to this one If anyone knows the other site please let me know. Extremely funny.
thanks
gail
ps In the 3 days that I have been doing this I feel much better, having taken control of the situation. I laugh a lot instead of being annoyed.
I guess I need a bluetooth for the telephone.

other things I have done:

ask them to 'hold' then go away, eventually come back and hang up.

speak to them in a non-existant foreign language

convince them I cannot understand, make them talk very very slow and reply extremely slowly. usually with a strong accent

I would like to set up an appointment, but then they have my phone number.

I usually just would hang up but once the guy called back in 20 minutes said 'see how you like it' and hung up., I liked it just fine because he never called again.

there were a lot more good responses on that other site that I would like to try.

Aggravating --No NAME NO NUMBER CALLS

It's apparently common practice to disguise the caller ID when calling for political campaigns. Most of the robocalls I got during tha last election cycle had callback numbers that were not possible (started with 1 or 0). PACs and SuperPACs, being technically not-for-profit, and surveyers can ignore the do-not-call-list.

I was one of the poor shlemazels on the other end of the line in college. While we were technically a survey company, some of the surveys were VERY leading. Imagine a room full of, say 50, minimum wage earners with headsets and 15 year old monitors. A computer dials the numbers and the bioware reads the script off of the screen. I lasted 3 weeks.

When I get cold called, I say "No Thanks" once, and then I hang up. Messing with the bioware only gets them in trouble with the floor supervisors. If they continue to call me, I demand talk to talk to their supervisors, who are listening in anyway. Then I give the supervisors a good chewing out. The floor supervisors are schadenfreudian <bleeps>, and I have no regrets about chewing on them.

I have been cell phone only for about 15 years so I do not get many sales calls.

When the phone rings, well does not ring, plays music and also displays the number. If the number is not in my phone book, I simply do not answer. If it is an important call they will leave a message.

For some reason my wife cannot do this, she needs to know who is calling.

I got a call yesterday from someone with a foreign accent, telling me that I just won a grant for $10,000. They informed me that I will never have to pay the money back and that I can do anything I want with it.

I took the rest of the day off and have already spent the money, even though it hasn't arrived yet.... just kidding about that part.

Before the person could finish talking, I said, "Thank you anyway, but I have so much money that I've just been giving it away." and hung up.

Instead of a "do not call" list, there should be a "don't bother calling because I won't fall for your scam" list so these idjits don't waste their time or mine.

It has turned into an epidemic. They are ghosting the phone numbers which is a violation of the law.

The next time I get a call for carpet cleaning I'm actually going to set up an appointment at the trailer trash house a few houses up (no one is staying there). When they show up I'll film them...get the company name and then take them to small claims court for violating the DNC registry. Their defense might be they were not the ones making the call. But, but using the spammer that makes the calls, they are party to it.

I'm also about ready to call the police and file a report for harassing phone calls. The police can't do anything but once I have a file # I can go back to the phone company and demand them take action. If they don't, I'll drop them.

If they would just start enforcing the truth in # law, most of it would stop.

The big complication is most are using VOIP. Those "Your computer is causing errors" phone call is actually coming from the middle east or Russia. I just hang up or I mess with them just to waste their time.
