Man, this is book quality stuff Mike, you do have a talent for story telling. My wife and I have friends in Tanzania and have told us of some of the life there, it is different. I don't remember which part they are in right now.

So, where is the preeminent, story- teller?
One only knows!!
Probably sharpening up his "bard" skills!
(I can't wait tell he drags out a "Lute"!)
We'll get serenaded - whether we like it or not!
Might be "ABBA", "1910 Fruit Gum Co", "The Captain and Tenielle", "The Bee-Gees", "Barry Manilow"? -
Let's wait and see!
(Sure hope he hasn't figured out Karaoke!! - YAAAAHHHHH!)
(Runaway - Runaway!!!)

The hand craft market is an odd one---When a country is closed like Tanzania was---only the real artists are making art---

When the merchandise is readily available and popular--soon workers are hired and the art is just tourist crap.

I learned to really love the importing business---what would be a better life?
Traveling to exotic places---the merchandise was sold at gift shows or by traveling reps---

One of the most successful was located up in Minnesota---As long as you could ship the business could be anywhere----

I put that on my short list of businesses to own----

Plans are what we make----life is what we get----

Wood was always my life and my first love---and the wide open spaces---

I helped with the business as I grew --I went to college (for 2 years) close by so I could keep a hand in the shop---

You met my dad--he could never concentrate on one thing long enough to make it work----

My place was to take his wild ideas and somehow make money with them---at least keep him from sinking the family ship---

The deli made money--the catering made money --but he paid little attention to that---(no window to decorate--no shelved to merchandise)

We sort of squeezed him out of the gift shop----He got to buy the gourmet cooking section--

The restaurant flopped---for a while---

I was growing up and Illinois is flat.

I was going to head west and join my brother and Donna in California---

The plan was to open a small wood shop and carve signs and build clocks ---while I continued with school.

I'd carved a few signs back in Illinois and the response was good---and clocks? Well---I'd been making those for years and everyone liked them--

The rent was cheap--food was cheap--and my car payment was only $83.60 per month.

Life was good--Who could not be happy with sawdust flying---sun bleached hair and the hills of northern California?

I lied my way into a job as a carpenter--my brown hair bleach to a red and I was as tan as a coconut.

I was back to carving signs again and adjusting to the endless rain of winter--and the games of gin rummy that lasted for days.

Then a letter came----

My mom is the one that taught Clint Eastwood that 'look'.

She was strong and silent---never one to lay her burdens on another--the one who acts when all others panic.

She's the one who pushed the others out of the way in an attempt to breath life into the child on the play ground.

She was the one who sensed something amiss when my sister didn't pick up the phone---and assured her daughters that everything would be fine someday.

This is the cool rock that wrote for help.
