12"???

What is with these post? 12" chanel" 1/4quot; What is this? Seems like I only see this in newbie post.
Hereís one from today.

"I have an old garage with peeling & rotting 12" lapboard siding. Can I install the new vinyl siding directly over the lapboaed siding after I wrap the building in Tivex & replace the rotting lapboard peices? There is room on all the window & door trim (3" wide) to install the "J chanel" as to hold the vinyl inplace. The old lapboard siding is only a 1/4" thick. I just don't want the vinyl siding to look wavey vertically.
thanks
Mike"

What's the deal Scuba?

I think he was referring to the items such as

&quot

and trying to figure out why whatever you typed showed up as &quot rather than what you intended it to be.

As far as I can see
Its people copying & pasting the same Post from one chat board to another
And our chat board is not the same
So it doesn't understand what is being copied
I have only seen one person stop long enough to correct the misspelling
Most of them that I check are off the site within minutes
So I tend to ignore the posts

I could be mistaken......

Well hopefully Michael1960 will be the second so we can answer his question.:)

I’m curious Michael, did you copy and paste your question from another site or program?

I would actually like to know this too
If its a problem with the board then they need to look into it

We used to get a lot of posts that seemed like spam
Turned out it was a problem in the code

Replace all the &quot parts with a " and the post makes more sense. But I agree with Scuba, it looks like someone cut and pasted their post from another place and the fonts didn't translate correctly.

I see this all the time in posts and titles and I DO correct them as I see them, although I may miss some here and there.

I can usually figure out what is trying to be said but I won’t answer.

I just don’t understand why it seems to only happen from people with only 1 or 2 post and usually is accompanied with half the words misspelled. In half of them you see it looks like they were written by the same person.

If it is a glitch I would think since this site is driven by advertising dollars based on the number of users they would want to fix it. How many new users never come back because they received no answer to what was probably a simple question.

It is definitely an XML Author transfer mishap. And it undoubtly comes from the Copy/Paste Dave mentioned. Can't say I blame anyone for doing a copy/paste, but it is a bit careless not to look at what you've actually posted and correct it.

So I'm wondering why you didn't go & edit & fix all of the spelling mistakes in the post ?

Nathan 09-17-2010 10:28 AM

I had someone look into this and it does seem like it comes from people copying and pasting from a program like Word. The formatting is different so it doesn't look right on this site when they get done.

I totally agree....
I've learned to ALWAYS proofread my posts before I hit 'submit'.....
saves the time going back and editing........

One thing that bothers me quite a bit is when a thread that I have participated becomes locked, and then I notice a spelling error. Of course, I cannot edit any of the content of locked threads (because I am not a moderator), and I find it very frustrating. :furious:

In my opinion, something needs to be done about this.

Thank you.

That's another nice thing about my Opera browser..... built in spell checker. Po)
