My first thought is it would be difficult. But can you describe your steel siding or post a photo?

rather than have to build the windows and door openings out--why not strip the steel siding off and scrap it for some $$. this way you start with a clean slate. maybe add some insulation or house wrap before the vinyl

In my opinion this would be a better way to go.

Why replacing the steel? Paint faded, bad color or dinged up? Steel siding can be repainted if it is just a color reason.

the first thing that came to mind was, I would be concerned about the existing steel siding heating up and distorting the siding, are you going to install insulated backer that would help. I have seen a few jobs that oil canned from this. when installed on a trailer with steel siding. just make sure the siding can and has room to move from side to side. BOB
