Snow Country Construction Rules

Hi all. I will post my Q's in seperate sections, but I came here searching for knowledge in Gambrel Roofs for Sheds. My commercial Steel building lasted 3 years of it's 15 yr warrenty before the roof broke in half due to snow load (which is not covered of course). My girlfriend wants a barn (and a cow but I told her that you have to have 5 acres of pasture for livestock and she believed me). My first (& last) shed was a scratch built (my imagination and my own plans) three room 12 x 15 2x4 simple gable roof. It has been standing for 15 years in my parents back yard. No one but me knows that I forgot to figure the runoff of the slab into my truss height setting measurements. Won't make that mistake again!
