renovating little 50's ranch

I'm a 67yo woman who has bought a modest little 2 BR ranch built in '58. It had no shower, so I'm tiling around the tub and adding one. I'm replacing old galvanized pipe and shoddy copper with pex. I had hoped to move in by now, but find I work more slowly than I used to. But I'm enjoying doing it (most of it, anyway).

Congratulations on the house. Homes built during that period were solidly built.

A few typical problems that you have run onto ,I'm sure, are poor insulation, tired plumbing, under sized electric service, conduit hidden under the flooring--Still very satisfying to look back at the end of the day and say,"I did that".

How'd you know!?

All those things. There was a row of service boxes in the basement from tiny to big, complete with some glass, screw in fuses. I now have just one new shiny one. That was one of the things I hired a pro to do.

I remodel homes,I can tell the age of almost any house by the construction techniques.

Upgrading your service first thing was wise.-MIKE-
