Hi folks! I'm a first-time homebuyer (contract to close 12/21!) and have been waiting 2 years for my own place to do all the DIY projects I've wanted to do... so I'm excited to get started! But I know I'll have questions and this seems like a really great resource, so, here I am. :)

Anyway, our (soon to be) house is in good condition, it's just got the ubiquitously ugly kitchen & bath. We also plan to remove a few walls to open up the living space and create a nice master suite. Our home inspector was also a structural engineer so we're already aware of the load-bearing walls... now it's down to time & money.

Glad to be here and I expect I'll soak up quite a lot in the next few weeks, so thanks in advance to everyone for sharing their wealth of experience!

Welcome!

Closing 12/21...

Can ya have it all done and decorated by 12/25??!! [and move]

Hahaha!!! xD

We'll have our rental house through 1/31, so we plan to take our time. Lots of projects on the list, much more than our initial budget permits; we'll probably paint throughout (at least the rooms not going to be ripped out anytime soon) and then move in and work on the other stuff as finances allow. First project: home theater. (I promised my husband!)

I know that feeling!

I think most of us keep running lists of what needs to be done when we have the time and money.

Getting the painting done first where applicable while the house is empty is a plus. Its not that expensive and a lot easier when the rooms are empty.

Welcome, lots of good information here. The 2 most important things are to have fun while you are doing it, and then have fun enjoying the results:thumbup: I do this for a living and I always remember to have a good time .

Welcome, Rebekkah! Come on over to the electrical section and we will hook you up. Maybe make ya laugh a little, too.

Thank you all very much for the warm welcome! And look, I've already learned something from this forum: buy good paint! ;)
