problems with trex brasilia

We recently had a deck installed with Trex brasilia amber which so far is great. In fact a few of our neighbors commented that it was the nicest deck they have seen so far.

Shortly after we had another deck using the same material and same color that was ground level but butted up to the steps of the exisiting deck. Immediately upon completion I complained to the contractor that the color was so different than the original and he said it would all weather the same in time.

The 2nd deck looks nothing like the first- it looks dull and weathered and scratches easily and stains will not easily wipe off. The contractor's answer is that he cannot be held liable for material only workmanship.

If anyone can suggest my next step to some sort of resolution- I would greatly appreciate it.

Get different deck boards? Kidding of course. Even though they are composite decking they do still weather like wood. Its fairly easy to take care of composite decking, but your best bet would have been to ask to see the difference in a composite deck board that has been weatherd to one that has not been weathered. Because it is composite, it still has pieces of wood in the board therefore ageing, or weathering as though it is a wood over a longer period of time. Not very noticable though, due to its characteristics.
It will scratch as normal wood does, but it will still need maintenance from time to time and be scrubbed to keep the necessary accidents from, well, sticking around. Treat it as though it was a wood deck and it should last longer than your traditional PT wood boards. Not sure if I answered any questions about what to do, but there really isn't much to do when it comes down to a composite deck.

Do a search on this forum for TREX

Usually you need to order all material at the same time & have it from the same Mfg batch
