We purchased a very small (570 sq. ft.) cinder block 1/1 house originally built in 1950. The house was in total disrepair. I have been remodeling it using subcontractors who applied for their own permits. To date, I had a roofing company put a new roof on, Lowes install all new windows, a licensed electrician upgrade the power sourced to 200 Amp with a new box and a cement company pour a new front patio, a new interior floor and a parking pad in front of the car port.
Now because of budget constraints, as a home owner, I applied for my own permit which includes structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical inspections and I am trying to do more of the work myself. With my permit open, I have opened up an exterior cinder block wall for a french door using a cement lintel, opened up an interior cinder block wall with an 8' beam, and installed a wider front entry door. My next two projects are to build a bedroom closet and an exterior utility closet with 2x4's before I request my first framing inspection. I will be needing some wood framing advice in a couple of days. Thank you |
