I've read post for a log time but just now joined to participate and ask questions. I've started a project of building a log cabin on the side of a ridge in middle Tennessee. The logs are going to be reassembled from an old log cabin from East Kentucky. I always liked the old look instead of the new log kits. The log area will be 15x40 and i will add a 8x25 shed roof for a kitchen and bath. Also plan a 15x18 screen porch and a 8 ft deep covered front porch. I plan to build a stacked stone fireplace and to use reclaimed materials as much as possible - but not exclusively. I will use a traditional block foundation and build a traditional subfloor system. I plan to later include a wood stove but no HVAC. Oh, I will include some screens and indoor plumbing - I'm not that rustic.
