New to the World of DIY

Hello All,
I am currently reside in Dallas, TX and the wife want a cover patio.
I don't know where to start ... and I found this site and am asking for HELP

Here what I got done so far:
4" slab pour onto an area where she wants the cover patio to go.

What do I do next and what do I need as far as material, posts, roofing, etc.?

Do you have a drawing? Build everything on paper 2 or 3 times (at least) before you pick up the first tool.

Google SketchUp is a great way to get a handle on how things stick together. The learning curve is about a 3 day weekend but its kinda fun once you get the hang of it.

Great. I've been looking for something else. I've found visual home isn't as user friendly as I need. I can get the walls to meet up right, lol it looks like a bunch of random walls put up.
Thanks for the info
