New Homeowner in NY

My husband and I just bought our first home (two-family) 3 weeks ago. It was bank-owned after a foreclosure and was vacant for at least 8 months before we moved in. It was built in 1925 and has been neglected for many years since the last few owners just rented out the units and didn't put much money into it. Between sloppy electrical work, patch jobs instead of replacements, and "interesting" garden landscaping, we have our hands full trying to fix it up.

This forum looks like it has very high traffic, so hopefully this will help us out a lot as we continue our adventure as homeowners.

Hi there! I'm fairly new myself, but people seem very nice and helpful around here. I'm sure you'll find lots of helpful answers.
