New and first time home owner and new to DIYchatroom

My wife and I just moved to North Alabama, from Houston Texas, and we're having a house built. There's been several instances that have popped up already where I would say to myself, "I wonder if I could just do that myself.." instead of having the builder do it. For example flood lighting and wiring for speakers or building a deck and fence.

I'm really into several automotive and home theater forums and I figured there was a forum on DIY and home improvements and this one seems to be a pretty good one.
