New to DIY!

Hello everyone,

Just thought I'd give a quick introduction! Glad to have stumbled across these forums and am looking forward to getting to know others and learning more DIY tips and tricks.

I'm from Austin TX. Bought my first house about 4 years ago. It's a cool place, love the layout, just a bit outdated (built in the late 80's) with popcorn ceiling, old fixtures, heavy orange peel and stuff like that. I'm hoping to learn more about how to do certain things myself.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm relatively new to power tools. I think I've been intimidated about doing things on my own not because of fear of the tools, but more so not knowing where to start with information or the process of whatever project I'm tackling!

Both my brothers and dad are all too familiar with carpentry, tiling and other things like that since one is a project manager for construction while the other has done a lot over the years and just picked it up naturally. Myself? I'm more of a tech guy - can build a computer from scratch but wouldn't know where to start with say - installing a new interior door (which is my first major project on my own). Don't get me wrong, I'm comfortable enough handling the non power tools, learning what measurements to take, and the starter stuff. Just need to make that leap . Hoping to save some money this way and have fun (safely) in the process! Glad to meet everyone.
