Hi, I recently purchased an earth contact home that needs some work. Kitchen, bathroom, flooring, removing walls, replacing doors and windows, roof, fencing.... oh, did I say "some" work? (how about 'a lot' of work). I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here!

Welcome to the forum Farmgirl. It sounds like you're going to be busy for a little while with all that work to do. If you don't mind me asking, what is an 'earth contact home'?

They used to be called 'basement homes'. What it is: the house is built into the side of a hill or berm. The whole back and sides of my house are pretty much concrete foundation surrounded by dirt. The front side opens to the south and looks like a typical house. If built well they can be really energy efficient and take advantage of heat gain from the sun in the winter. My house has a second story that is part loft and has dormers for extra light.

Yep, lots of work but I like to spend my spare time building my 'castle'!
