Just a DIY Wannabee

Currently working on a house that is almost 100 years old and getting discouraged fast. The house is adorable, (or can be).....right now some of the walls and ceilings which are plaster have areas that are crumbling. I'm trying to figure out whether I should just have drywall put up (not by me....not that much of a diy'r), or having it patched (again not by me). The bedrooms are 10x21 and like 8 x 8 and 10x8......just searching for cheap answers I guess. I just want to do it right the first time and not have to re-do again later.
