Hello, I am from Ohio. My screen name "operatormase" comes from my career, as I am a boiler operator at a power plant. In 2010 I purchased a two story 1900's victorian that has been in my family for nearly 70 years. My granfather baught it and raised a family in it and I plan to do the same. I always take pride in the work I do, and this house is a way to show the pride I have to carry my family name.
Since I purchased the home, I have replaced the roof, and in the process of gutting the entire house. Future plans include replacing baseboard hydronic heat with new gas furnace/heat pump/Air and ductwork, vinyl siding, new plumbing/drains, out with the knob and tube and all new wiring, of course drywall and paint, and new flooring.
So I have only just begun. I have always been a tinkerer and hands on person, and I was taught that a man can do anything he puts his mind to.
So thats me, Hello.
operator, Welcome to the Forum
Great news on the Victorian. We would love to see some pics. If you don't know how to do it now (few folks know at first) then Click Here
My Grandfather built Victorians in early 1900's in Akron Ohio so as a little kid I remember seeing wooden kegs of nails. My first High School summer job was to help demo an 1890 Victorian that still had the original lead pipe plumbing. The lumber and trim were being salvaged for new construction because the house had to be razed to make way for the first 1952 Freeway in Akron. That was one solidly built house.
