Illinois woodworker and contractor

Hi. This is an interesting place lots to learn and plenty of questions to answer.

I've been a remodeling contractor for 16 years, finish carpenter before that.

This is a fun outlet for my skills. See you all around!

Kane county is 35 miles west of Chicago.

Staying busy there? I'm considering a move to Streator.

Busy?

I've got no real complaints. The calls are not coming in like years past.
We've had work all year but not the nice profitable stuff.

I have always turned down more than I took. This year I take any thing that comes along.

I still listen to the warning bells!!!!!!!!!
If a customer sets off my alarms I won't work for them.

In 35 years as self employed I have had only two uncollectable accounts.

I do hope that the hope I never ignore the bells.

:)The phone just rang!!Money called!!:)Crazy business.

I don't know Streator. There is a lot of money in this area. The people who can afford quality still have money. I have a large customer base and (I think) a trusted reputation, still the work is thin.
This might be a hard time to be the new guy.
Good luck MiCS54,sometimes you have to do what it takes to get by.---MIKE

Well the move isnt really about the economy although the work certainly isn't keeping me here. My wifes family live there and she wants to go home. Her mom is aging and the house her dad built is going to be empty one of these days. Not to mention I am getting tired of the snow.
