Howdy from up on the hill!
Howdy folks,
A little background info; I'm 53, Grew up working for my father (general contractor/carpenter) until going out on my own @ age 23. I've specialized in trim carpentry and custom cabinet work since then. At one point, I had 16 people working for me, but decided a few years back, life needed to be less complicated. Now I have a total of 3 (counting myself) employees. I pick and choose what I do now rather than the old "anything for a buck" system that it took to keep a big crew busy. 5 years ago, my wife and I bought the house I grew up in, and have embarked upon the project of restoring it to a pristine condition. Anyone that's ever worked with a 150 year old home will tell you that can be a real chore. My profession is also my hobby. I love working with wood. Hopefully, as we go along, I can post a few pictures of some of my projects. I look forward to asking and HOPEFULLY answering a few questions. My dad and my uncle served as my mentors when I was learning the trade. Without passing along our collective knowledge, how do we expect the next generation of craftsmen to learn? In a perfect world, I like to LEARN something new every day, and also, pass along something I know every day. Good to be here! Bill |
