Hi and welcome to the site.

There is ALOT to know and understand if you are attempting to build your house and be the GC of it. Lots of phone calls, lots of planning, lots of checking, lots of thinking.
If you have any construction background, this is a must, otherwise, you are going to have to rely on your subcontractors to instruct you, educate you on the quality and details of each phase of work....You will also have to rely on them to help you solve the problems and issues that will arise (there are issues on EVERY build - it's a fact of life).

ALOT ? That's too small of a word ! :)

I've done a TON of research, reading, talking with people and I still have only touched the surface of what I need to know. I've been real lucky with subcontractors. I remember talking with my excavation sub and he kept looking at me strange because of the questions I was asking. He had to remind himself that I wasn't an experienced GC and needed things explained.

I've been lucky too with major issues. 1st was ledge during excevation. I had enough room on the property to move the house over 20ft versus spending 8K on blasting. The second was a few wrong designed trusses. My framer took care of fixing those.

I'm a stickler for quality and I'm upfront with the contractors on that.

The house is up, framed and siding is going on this week. I've done much of the electrial and plumbing work on my own. Rough inspection should be next week. I think I see the end in sight !!!
