Hiya from the Mojave Desert

We just recently bought a house way out in the middle of nowhere.......the views are worth it........

It was a fixer and we knew it.........just DIDN'T know about the main drainline problem.............(yes, we did have to cut through the slab). It still needs new windows and paint. The kitchen floor was jacked up about 4 inches and a wood subfloor built over it. The kitchen cabinets are crooked and the counter top crooked the opposite direction..........I am SO curious about that kitchen floor............NO........the pipes are not under it. The run around the outside of the house and the whole drain system goes outside the wall also........I am thinking the concrete is B A D under there. Across from there in the dining room.......we discovered after pulling up the carpet that the floor had "attempted" to be leveled....................and where they did an addition........the concrete sticks up about a half inch above the other side....................nope........still not sure what to do about that either...........lol. Seems most of my issues lie either ON the ground or under it..........but it is STILL my dream house...........so hopefully you guys can talk me through some of it.

My husband deployed this morning for Iraq........so now I get to try my hand at it...........

Awwwwww.........Thanks guys!!! We appreciate that!! I don't think these guys and gals can hear it enough. No.....it isn't easy......hardest thing in the world to let your mate go away for 7 months..........BUT.....the kids and I just call it an "adventure" and we do learn alot. Where we live is where alot of the pioneers stopped and homesteaded. Pretty good lesson for the older kids.....the younger ones could care less......all they see is the biggest sand box in the world.........lol. Wish me luck and send prayers........I haven't been away from him this long before.......

Welcome fellow desert dweller. My little brother just got back from a second tour about 6 months ago. I got a lot of usage out of the USPS boxes that are one price no matter what you put in em.

Good luck with your projects, and tell your husband thanks.

That's a fine place to be wed. Remember this before you saw...Measure twice, cut once.

boomer0369swife 08-27-2007 11:25 AM

Yeah.......I heard that was the trick........thing is........I stink at measuring.........Anywhere to take a class???

Docfletcher 08-27-2007 02:34 PM

I'm not at all familiar with your California location. At the schools in your area I'm sure they will have all sorts of classes. Like woodworking etc. Get yourself a sturdy 1 inch (or more) wide blade tape and practice measuring the length of walls, rugs, doors, length & width of walkways. Lots of stuff for you measure.:laughing:
