Hi, from the south

I am from Louisiana and am experiencing a problem with the heat on our second floor sleeping area and access to the attached carport attic. The question is whether to insulate attic or not. (floorand/or ceiling, walls to the second floor bedrooms are insulated.)

Does the second floor have an attic space? And just think more insulation the better, so do what it takes depending on how much you wanting to spend. If the second floor does not have an attic area you should think about atleast use some foil one side insulation to dispense heat the go with some R13 then sheetrock

Yes, the second floor does have attic space but I have never been up there (no room to stand like attic above the carport). What way does the foil on the insulation go, down or up? Where am I putting the sheetrock, in the attic or on the second floor ceiling (it already has a ceiling).

Foil side up and it has to be placed between the runners in the attic, will help alot I just got through installing some then put a ten roof, I couldn't believe the difference it made. I would just cut it to size so it can wedge inbetween the runners (attic area) the you can measure the distance between the runner to match what isalation you need and staple it to the runners. And I though you we're using the attic as a room so you really don't need to sheetrock it
