I just purchased my first home (a foreclosure) and I'm doing the renovation myself. I come from a family of handy gals, so this isn't my first time at the rodeo
It is a split level with a finished basement that is stuck in 1974 when it was built. I have a little over an acre of land, and the last owners lived there for about 30 years.
There was terrible dirty, stained carpet and damaged pine floors with big gaps between boards throughout most of the house. Kitchen has at least 2 layers of alternating plywood & vinyl. Bathroom has vinyl stick on tiles over lord only knows what- haven't gotten that far yet.
So far I've done the following:
Livingroom- stripped wallpaper boarders, ripped up the pine flooring, ripped off the dark pine on the walls, removed the trim from the doors, window, and fireplace, and repainted the room. Rehung drywall under the bow window and repaired all of the walls (they were in terrible shape!) I also opened up a half wall between the LR & kitchen.
Kitchen- refinished the kitchen cabinets, stripped wallpaper, demo-ed a broom closet and 3 section pantry cabinet, repaired the wall behind the pantry and the half wall.
Master Bedroom- peeled borders, ripped up the carpet, painted the room and trim out, and removed the broken bypass doors.
Bathroom- stripped painted over wallpaper, started to remove silicone from surround/tub.
Laundry room- removed wall cabinet, patched walls, painted it out.
Rooms I haven't touched yet: bedrooms 2 & 3, familyroom in basement.
Considering I'v only had the house since 7/13 and I'm doing all of this by myself afterwork and on weekends, I think I've done a pretty stellar job so far. There are lots of projects left, and I'm sure I'll have some questions along the way I look forward to speaking with you all!
