Hi, I'm Whammy!
Hi y'all, just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Whammytap--a Kansas girl who is happiest covered in plaster dust or mud, wearing my favorite blown-out bluejeans, tool belt, and headlamp. I'm in love with my 1946 shoebox Ranch and all of its inherent opportunities for learning experiences.
For example, just last Wednesday night the temps got down in the single digits, and presto--Thursday morning I got to learn how to fix a frozen pipe! Apparently, in 1946, you didn't have to bury or otherwise insulate your water main. So I had a chance to get to know my crawlspace--it's like archaeology, the junk down there! I'll be back down when the weather warms up, burying that pipe and patching up the tar-paper air returns. It's fascinating down there. For example, the main beam going down the middle length of the house, upon which all the floor joists rest, is held up by three concrete-block plyons. Except the beam doesn't reach the pylons--on top of each pylon are two bricks, and that's what is supporting the beam! So the middle of my house is held up by six bricks!?!? That's amazing! Pictures to come, eventually, so that the whole community may marvel (or laugh). Anyhoo, this has been me expounding on the subject of myself! How are y'all doing? |

Hi, I'm Whammy!
Thanks for your great intro, Whammy! I just joined and wasn't going to do one, but you inspired me to say "Hi." Best of luck with all of your "oppotunities" in your classic home.
