Hi! DIY learning the hard way.
It started with me not being able to uy a nice house so I bought a fixer upper. The house was rough and I mean rough! The neighbors wanted me to tear it down! I hired roofers and got a new roof and some framing done. I had a roof leak within a month and have done all the work myself since. I now find it fun and I like to learn tho I still sometimes do things the wrong way so I joined this forum. Myabe you guys can set me straight!

To be honest, I think since you own the estate, when you DIY, most of the time, you will do it better then many contractors, after you did adequate study ..etc. and like your examples... many contractors don't give a xxx except the $$... I don't mean all contractors... but there are many... and there is some chance you will bump into those... like your roof contractors.... so sometimes DIY will give you better guarantee of free of problems ....

Thanks and heres a couple of pics,I don't have any before pics cause I didn't have a digital cam back then.
The kitchen had checkerboard floor, old painted cabnets, and yellow paneling. Since I had to reframe the back wall (never framed right to begin with it sagged from no surport) I put up new paneling, new cabs, counter tops and tile. The cabs were unfinshed redoak I bought pre built from a hardware store. I finished them natural. The tile was a pain,I had to scrap all the old floor off!
This room new floor, sheetrock repaired, new wood trim and window, bed. Chest of drawers striped and refinished, radio refinished, tube amp I recapped, built case.
