Hi from (brrrrr) northern Minnesota

Hi, everyone. Been restoring homes since I was a teenager. Working on yet another old shack trying to bring it back to its 1920s glory. Hoping I can find some answers here!
Cheers!
Lisa

Hi from (brrrrr) northern Minnesota

I have so many photos of this project you'd have to get another server to handle them! But as I complete a project I'll do before and afters. I have great hopes for this site!

And my husband thought up my handle ...

Hi from (brrrrr) northern Minnesota

Welcome to Lisa from another Minnesotan!!!

I spent many weeks years ago in the canoe country every year during the good season (Sept.) for a 10 day canoe trip with many portages (17 portages and 36 miles one day) and seeing no one for days earlier. Everytime time I saw the old TV show "Northern Exposure" I thought of Ely although the newer downtown is not similar. Later, I also lived in Virginia,MN and fished the area from Orr and eastward several times a week. It is certainly a unique and great area to live in, especially with the people different backgrounds.

Hi, Dick!

My husband is now a lake trout and northern pike fishing guide up here, and also does photo excursions around the area ... up the Echo Trail and Fernberg Roads, Lakes Shagawa, Burntside and Vermilion, with many others.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Hi from (brrrrr) northern Minnesota

You obviously recognized the Lake Trout on my avatar. - 38# 2 days after catching (probably 42# when caught) on 6# line about 80 miles NNE of you between the Antikoken road and the Queens Highway.

That is great country for real fishing and photography, but don't try to drive stakes for tents everywhere.

I also fished the chain of lakes , starting at Moose and then Ensign, Ada, Thomas. We spent a lot of time at Saugas and then went from there to Roe and even ended up in a dead end at Raven Lake and caught many small (5-7#) Lake Trout. Other trips went south to complete the 10 day trip back to Ely by 8 PM and begin the 6 hours drive back to St. Paul.

Try Pelican Lake at Orr for monster Bluegills especially after you see the Roland Martin video where he caught all of them off the dock because that is where they were at that time - I was a week late.

I am sure your husband will have some unique questions and great photos to provide situations to others.

Or grow a garden! Gotta love the cap rock up here. Makes for a nice natural driveway, but it's really a b*tch to grow, dig, drive tent stakes or landscape

Hi Lisa, If you haven't already found it, Project showcase is the place to post progress pics of your current project. Looking forward to it. There is a great thread called German House Rebuild but the author has retired from that thread. Still, there is a lot of great info there for a DIY remodler.

Hi from (brrrrr) northern Minnesota

Hello from Fargo, ND!

I've never been to the Ely area believe-it-or-no....
DW & DD go to figure-skating competitions in Duluth in mid-Jan. tho'.
I DID actually get to Moondance-Jam last July in Walker (Leech Lake) to see Pat Benatar with DD however!
Good time there!

Hi from (brrrrr) northern Minnesota

Right now we're in the midst of Ely Winterfest where the biggest draw is the snow sculptures. Then in July is the Blueberry Festival where there's a huge art show and sale. Then in September is the Harvest Moon Festival which centers around the Voyageur aspect. Here's a snow sculpture from this year. They were mostly terrific this year!
