Hello from Oregon!

Hello everyone, first-time home owner and beginning DIY'er that will surely need a lot of :help:

It's an older ranch style home (late 70's/early 80's) that wasn't exactly my first choice...but you know how that goes.

First project was re-roofing the 14x20' patio as it had a hideously ugly, leaking, loud (raining in Oregon...) corrugated panel roof. I used plywood and shingles and with some help got it done in a weekend. I also repainted the posts and underside. Then my (Hispanic) father-in-law got the bright idea to add arches between the four posts... It looks okay, after I put in hours of work plastering/sanding them. I did run an LED rope light along the outer perimeter and it produces a nice ambiance in the evening with the fire pit in the yard. Now I need some nice patio furniture and a mosquito zapper!

Next up is lighting (need electrical/design help) in the kitchen/living followed by refinishing the cabinets. I would really love to gut the bathrooms as they're very dated and basic/apartment like and I've always dreamed of a jet tub.

Thanks for the welcome!

I've I actually been DVR'ing reruns of "Home Again with Bob Villa" and PBS's "This Old House" along with "Ask This Old House." These programs are so much better than the cookie cutter shows on HGTV and DIY.

I stopped watching TV years back, but I used to love Woodright's Shop.

I hear ya, I can't sit through (nor want to) most of the commercial-loaded drivel out there. I just googled...now that looks like it requires some real skills and quite the lot of specialized tools. I took a few years of wood-shop back in middle school . I'm kind of debating on making my own cabinet doors and drawer fronts or just ordering some when the time comes.
