Hello from Ontario

I've always come across this site when searching for my home improvement questions, and finally decided to become a member. My boyfriend and I bought our first house 2 1/2 years ago, the house is about 30 years old, it needs almost no work, nothing big that we can determine anyways, mostly cosmetic. So far we've changed the light switches, some lighting, painted, updated faucets, redid the hearth of the fireplace, and pretty much anything else we feel we can handle on our own. Everything I've learned, I've learned from my dad, which means do the opposite of what he would do, haha! He's one of those folks who tests if wires in switches or sockets is live by licking his fingers and touching them, I remember he once attempted to install a ceiling fan without turning the breaker off, he almost made it to the end without getting a little zap. Good times I did learn things though, I swear, hehe. I am enjoying working on these house projects and hope to get more done in the future, with the help of this forum!
