My name is Elliot and I'm new to this forum. I bought my first house about a year ago and it's been an interesting year. The house was built in 1969 and it seems that the refurb job was done by homeowners that weren't too concerned with quality and doing a good job. I get most of my stuff from Lowes, so I have no problem with them, but a lot of the things in my house have been found to be the cheapest corresponding item on the shelf there.
In one year I went from someone that had never really used tools to having redone two bathrooms (including installing a pedestal sink... which was a pain), changing all of my electrical outlets and light switches, changing all of the lights, painting, etc etc. Most of what I've learned has come from people like you that share information on the internet.
In my off-DIY time I'm in the Navy and have a family with three daughters (God help me).
