Hello everyone. Im glad I found this forum. We are in the process of buying a home and will be doing quite a few projects to it soon.

We are very excited to own our own home again. It has been almost 7 years since we have had one of our own. Our previous home was in Florida and I was used to the "Florida" style houses there. Concrete block, stucco, basic slab foundation with no basements and central HVAC systems. We are now in Maine and will be dealing with a different animal here. Oil furnaces, basements, wood framing etc.. Im sure the basics are the same, but I will be asking alot of questions along the way!

You moved from a warm place to a freezing cold one:eek:
Welcome I'm orginaly from NH and you could not pay me to go back. Just a picture of snow gives me chills.

HA! I was waiting for a comment like that! I hate hot weather. Florida was brutal! Its a nice place to visit....

I am originally from NJ, lived in FL for about 12 years, now moved up here to Maine. WHo knows where I'll go next! I plan to stay here atleast until my 2 girls graduate High School, about 8 years or so. After that, who knows!

That's why I moved to the middle. I get all the seasons, even get snow sometimes.
I figure I get at least 3 more months of weather where you can go outside and be comfortable then living in NH.
Your going to find a big differance from ME to any place you have lived.
Did they give you a set of Burt and I tapes to learn the local lingo when you bought the house?
Only thing I miss is being able to by fresh lobsters for about $3.00 LB.

Actually, we have lived here in Maine for about 5 years. We have been renting a house up until now (or soon I hope). So we are starting to get use to it! I think I have a good handle on the language... Unless of course I go up north, thats a different story.

Im not tired of shoveling snow yet... Not as exciting as it was the first winter but.... Seriously though, one of the main reasons we came up here was for my girls. The school system in Florida is horrible. Maine has one of the best public school system in the country. I can honestly see the difference.

We are under contract to buy our a house, but we are anxiously waiting for the home inspection on wednsday. The type of mortgage we are getting states that the house cannot need any repairs. I didnt see any major problems, but I am not sure what they are looking for. I really hope we get the house.

Thanks for the welcome!
