I'm planning my first ever build (doing it myself I hope) on Mayne Island in British Columbia. I know it's a bit ambitious as I have little experience but this is a big one on the bucket list!
I'm currently in the planning phase and wondering if anyone else here has experience building in this area.
Essentially my plan is to build a 500 sq/ft cabin on a pier type foundation. I'd like to place the beams directly atop the concrete piers so the house is not very high off the ground. I'm having a hard time finding much information about these in relation to placing an entire house on one in this region.
Is this still acceptable in this area? Would love any first hand experiences in building on the Gulf Islands or any links to book/resources in dealing with this type of foundation.
