Hello from Fredericksburg, VA

We bought a 3-year old house last year that has an unfinished basement and are getting ready to do build it out this spring and summer. All it has currently is the gas furnace and water heater, a sump pump, the electric panel, plumbing stubs for a bathroom and blanket insulation on the concrete walls.

One of the first tasks will be putting in a walkout/walkup entrance. The original owners were one of the few folks who choose not to have the basement entrance installed during construction.

Aside from needing a means of egress so guests can sleep down there, having a basement exterior entrance will make getting construction material into the basement much easier. 8' 2x4s -- I can get down the stairway (does a 180 degree turn) -- but 4'x8' sheetrock would be a major pain.
