Hello from DFW
Hello all. I signed up with the sight for insight on my first major remodeling attempt. We are remodeling our 120 sq ft master bath with a new larger shower, smaller door for our walk in closet, replacing the existing whirlpool tub with a new one, new vanities, adding a sink, new flooring. I want to do things right, so will probably have several questions along the way. I do have a handyman on backup, just in case things get out of hand!
Thanks,
Mindy

Hello from DFW
So anyway...WELCOME!
I'm an old Denton County resident myself. Lived in Grapevine, Lewisville, Lake Dallas, and finally Denton in the country. The area was growing rapidly when we lived there and we kept trying to get away from the congestion.
So what's your first project?

I have done a few little projects, but I am undertaking a big one now. I am redoing our 120 sq ft master bath. It is gonna take a while, being mom to a 3 and 4 year old interrupts my remodeling schedule. My husband helps with the heavy work, but it is mostly my project.
It is continuing to expand around here. You would be surprised at how far people will drive to work.

That is one of the reasons we moved from there. I had one (ongoing) account in deep downtown Dallas about three blocks from Fair Park and we lived in the country outside of Denton about seven miles from TWU. Another account with the same company took me to Ft.Worth routinely. Other accounts had me at Ray Roberts Lake and Benbrook Lake on a regular basis. All I did it seems was drive all the time. Constant road work everywhere and Interstate parking lots were commonplace. I loved living in Texas but it sure got annoying being on the streets everyday.
So what's the chain of events with the bathroom?

I need to finish the demo, then install a smaller closet door (we had a bypass mirror ugly thing). I need that wall space to expand the shower. Then I am going to frame the tub deck, and shower mud base. After that I suppose we will install the tub, re-texture walls and paint, then concrete backer and tile everything. Last but not least the new furniture vanities will go in along with toilet installation. Please correct my order if necessary. Planning is not my forte and I am sure it will bite me in the butt.

Hello from DFW
Biggest worry may be the shower. Are you building a full-blown tile shower from the ground up? If so, I would like to direct you to some fool proof and state of the art shower-building products that will make your life easier. Take a look at http://schlutersystems.com. In particular look at their shower floor kits and KERDI Drain systems.
