Hello everyone,

Just joined up as part of looking for info about soom needed repairs to my home in Grafton, WI (north of Milw). Have been looking around for about an hour at all the info available and forgot why I was here. That's a good sign.

I do custom woodsmithing in and around the area ranging from finish work to cabinetry to "tailored" work stations to personalized commercial and residential environments.

I am interested in the re-use/re-purposing of materials whenever possible and in environmentally appropriate design and construction.

I learned what I know from my father and grandfather and from fixing my own and other's mistakes. Lots of my own, but less as I get older. I never had formal education in this, so questions I will have, or answers I might offer, will sometimes sound like those of a tourist. I'll try to learn the "language" as I go along.

My experience as a "builder" comes mostly from smacking my fingers doing plenty of rehabbing for rental and flip properties. I am weak in the theory of building construction and will be asking for help in that area.

I am often available to trade labor for labor, and labor for learning.

3 Dogs is the business name, and a tribute my 3 best friends, dogs all.

I look forward to getting to know y'all, and learning a lot, as well.

Jonathan

Hey John

How goes it?
That sounds pretty awesome that your a trial and error guy. I tend to do the research and find out how it goes or do it totally wrong and then research it :\ But that is pretty cool about the environment thinking. My Lady put down some of the Bamboo flooring and it is really nice.. only thing is that it shows dirt really well... Think I should seal it with anything ?

seal bamboo floor?

'morning, Bootz...

I guess I do fall somewhere in between "formally schooled" and "trial and error," but I try to pass it off as "highly experienced." My teachers (Dad and Grandpa) were pretty clear on what was the right way, but were willing to let me make (and fix) my own mistakes, which, at the end of the day, were all the mistakes I made plus any of theirs they could lay on me. Anybody who's been a helper on a construction crew can tell the same story.

As far as the bamboo floors, if they're laying flat and look good, don't mess with them. Almost anything you do that alters the way they were manufactured will, at this point, void the warranty they came with, including any sort of sealer. They DO show dirt....this would be a good time to impress the lady and dust mop them daily for her. They will last longer, look better, and you will be forgiven many small faults, past and future. As I said: "highly experienced."

Alright This may sound stupid ... what kind of cleaner? I have heard that she used some cleaners before and they left streaks or a hazy look to the floor.. Any suggestions?

bamboo floor cleaning

Bootz,

sweep up or vacuum all the dust up and then clean with a new/clean mop head moistened with about 1/2 cup of vinegar in about 1 gallon of warm water. do this once a week or so, just dusting in between. Don't pour the water directly on the floor or you might get water under the flooring and that would be less than good.
