Gulfport, Ms__Gulf Coast of Katrina

Hellooo to you all. Even though things are getting better, the effects of the storm left the Gulf Coast with higher than normal labor and material costs; Reputable contractors are swamped, thus, it is a DIY atmosphere.;)

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hello from New Orleans area Amatchin. As a renovation pro, I know your problems with costs/labor availability. I'll leave the comments on the specific components to ac people who are familiar with your models. As for the ductboard, although I personally don't like it for long trunk lines, if it is fabricated correctly,it does seem to work ok --if you can keep people from crawling over it. If you are going to fabricate your own, it is worth investing in a few tools the pros use. An absolute necessity is the cutter that v grooves the board from the back, allowing you to fold 90 degree corners without compromising the foil facing.A circle cutter is also nice, although you could survive cutting the holes with a razor knife ot fine tooth jig saw blade. For longevity you have to use the silver foil tape on seams and corners, not regular duct tape, and your absolute best friend is a bucket of duct sealing mastic and a pack of disposable latex gloves. Not a fan of flex duct myself, but certainly a lot more diy friendly than sheet metal. Do install a sheet metal 90 in the top of your ceiling register boxes to keep the flex duct from kinking here and restricting air flow.Good luck with rebuilding, I have been to your area several times since the storm and it makes the destruction of Hurricane Camille look mild.
