Hey everyone,

Just registered tonight after spending a ton of time lurking and reading some really fantastic posts. Big, HUGE thanks to everyone taking their time posting their thoughts, tips and feedback on the various issues. Seriously... awesome job and great community!

My wife and I own a small-ish townhouse in a far northwest suburb of Chicago, IL (USA). We've been here about six years (unit is 11-yrs old) and spent a great deal of time, effort and money repainting everything ourselves right after moving in.

Holy crap. Not a great experience. Neither of us are great, experienced painters, so we made a ton of mistakes, and while we tried to learn from them, we tend to still twist in the wind and do stuff the wrong way out of sheer ignorance. And, no offense intended, we seem to get terrible advice from the folks manning the desks at Home Depot and Lowes.

My wife loves to paint. Me, not so much. No offense to people who love to paint but it drives me bonkers, for various reasons I won't bother you with. That being said, what I hate more than painting is wasting my time and money, which we've clearly done in our previous painting efforts.

As such, I'm really spending some effort right now trying to learn about how to do things right as we begin to repaint and correct problems from the first effort.

I'm in the mode that I'm willing to spend a bit more money on quality paint and materials in order to finish the job (theoretically) in half the time with higher quality, if it means less overall frustration and wear-n-tear on my stomach/marriage.

I fear I won't be one to offer much in the way of tips and suggestions for this community -- I simply don't have the skills. But I am hoping to learn some skills and maybe pass along those skills moving forward.

Again, very HUGE thanks to all those who take the time to post on these forums. It really is amazing to see posts from beginners like me to long-experienced pros.
