I bought a house for $1000 last year. Yes, that's a single thousand. She's the epitome of a fixer upper, but she's got GREAT potential. I currently have 30 amp electrical service and I walk on sub floors The plumbing works!!
I'm a rebel. I pinch pennies til they scream. I want to do a home makeover with the goal of eventually getting "off the grid" - self sustainable without modern power. I live simply, and I want power to eventually be a luxury that I can provide for myself via solar energy, and not a necessity for survival.
There is no furnace or other normal heat source. I use a 24" box wood stove, a traditional space heater helps in the bathroom as needed, and a nice infrared unit in the "everything-else room" rounds out the heating. I cook on the wood stove, a small propane camp stove, and a microwave.
Welcome to the forums! Be sure the propane stove is vented...
