DIY Newbie from Iowa

Hi, folks. I'm here because not only am I pretty much a DIY newbie and seek to learn a few things, ask questions, etc...I am here originally because I am hoping someone can help me with my first--albeit daunting (to me!) repair project. It's nothing huge, but I do not really know too much about even the most common tools in the hardware section, let alone how to plan and construct something from start to finish (which is what I'd like to eventually do, just for the fun of gaining new skills)--and what tools i can use to build that something with.

What I'd also like to learn here is not just how to build and repair things, but I would love to know more about cost control even while using the best materials possible for the sake of quality work, as well as being environmentally conscious (If I could indulge in my desire to go "deep green" with every project, I would--that is how much I love my planet...as if you couldn't tell by my username.

)

Anyhow, I'll be off to find an appropriate category for my question...
