Oh, so much to learn! Very intimidating to the newbie.
My wife and I just purchased a 1950s rambler in Northern Virginia (our first home), and it needs a lot of work. As I've already hired people for painting, chimney cleaning, carpeting and electric work in the first week (and still looking for a gas fitter, plumber and carpenter!), I'm quickly realizing that I better start learning some of this stuff quick.
The good news is that I think I can get into this DIY thing! Besides the cost benefits, I feel pretty good even after the most simply projects.
I look forward to continuing to learn and maybe tackling some more impressive projects. I've read several threads in here and I think this will be a great source of information as I move up the DIY learning curve.
Welcome to the Dark Side
