What's up with this???

Well this is a new one... the first popup I've received on this site asking me to take a survey.

Is this legit?

If so... it is what it is, if not then I thought the brass should know.

That is why I use Firefox with Adblock. I would just ignore it and move on. I just pulled up the blocked items in Adblock, and it is actually a Java Script Beacon, that is serving up from scorecardresearch.com

I'm using Chrome with adblock, that's why I was surprised to see it.

Interesting that this is the first time I've ever seen it.

I know in the past Nathan showed an interest in adds that were not supposed to be here.

I would have hit the little red button but i don't think it works for popups.

If the window is high lighted....hit Alt-F4

If it pops up again....do Ctrl-ALT-DEL and kill all of your IE sessions....

DO NOT click any buttons on that form.

Next....run something like Advanced System Care or Spybot Search and Destroy.

Upon doing a bit of searching.... I found this.
This may or may not be true, of course. It could just be a scam to get you to download a REAL virus! You just never know any more.

Description: ScorecardResearch.com browser hijacker is actually caused by a dangerous trojan virus infection on your computer. The trojan is known to exploit a known security vulnerability via a hidden connection to redirect the deafult browser to certain malicious websites. The trojan may carry different payloads and carry out harmful actions. Once activated, ScorecardResearch.com browser hijacker will compromise the computer by changing the Windows registry settings, like DNS and HOSTS file and other essential Windows components. It may record your credit card information and collect usernames, passwords and other stored data. ScorecardResearch.com redirect may reduce the system speed and pose a major security threat. We advise you to check your system and prevent ScorecardResearch .com unwanted redirect upon detection.

...And Mike’s been seeing this for a year.

I have Avast (free) and Advanced System Care (paid). Avast was setup to run weekly but when I just looked it hasn’t scanned since Aug and the scheduler was some how turned off (not by me). Running a full scan now so we’ll see.

I entered “scorecardresearch.com” in my start up search box and it came back with a link to “how to attatch a photo to a post” on the B&C page of this site Dated 10/10/11. Not sure what that’s suppose to mean.

This is what the scan came up with. Why is Avast wanting me to move these files instead of deleting them?

You'll need to use the Boot scan option. Be sure it is set to "ask" you before doing anything so you know everything it finds in DOS. (before windows loads) keep a paper and pencil handy to write down what goes where and if it does or does not allow removal. Get malwarebytes.org setup file and run that from safe mode after avast does it's thing in DOS. Emsisoft may help too.

Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes will take care of just about anything. And both are 0$
