Good idea. Where would I fit it in though? Would it be a general topic sub forum?
Also, this forum is very unique for a DIY site because we have so many professional contractors helping out consumers. I have had some suggestions to come up with some way to show who is a contractor and who is a homeowner. I'm still thinking this one through but I think it's a good idea. We could also then add "ask a contractor" sections where a consumer could ask a question and only people in the "contractors' group could respond. Not really sure how it would work (as in how to prove who is and is not a contractor) but it's a good idea if we can pull it off.

As for the other idea you have, not sure about it, after all this is DIY. It should be open to all who wish to respond to a question. Keep it Simple. IMO |

How about a new forum for designing, planning and permitting topics?
On the one hand, it may seem at first to stray from the DIY intent, given the opportunity to veer towards vastly different and broad topics. But on the other, most DIY projects involve some design, some planning, and some permitting. And then there are those projects that are so design-intensive that they absolutely have got to be DIY... |

Topic Suggestions
Not exactly a suggestion for a new topic, but how about an option for members to MOVE a posted question or topic to a different forum at a later time? For example, a question posted in Landscaping might have nothing to do with landscaping, while the clever folks in Tools might have a suggestion but they may never visit Landscaping to see the question...

Might as well take this suggestion, how about email to member should any topics the member involve in communicating got new posts... the best is to have an option the member can check on/off whether they want to be informed should new posts arise .... and in the email, of course, a link to jump to the thread's last page...
