site slow/locks up/etc.
In addition to the recent complaints of being slow, it seems to lock up, I can't back out of some threads, the 'back' button is no longer on. If I post a reply it locks up. No problems with any other DIY website or the net in general.

Try Opera or Firefox and see what happens.

There are all sorts of things that can cause the problems that have been reported here and in the other post. They range from bad browser updates (quite a few from both Firefox and IE lately) to Google server problems on sites using Adsense and java conflicts depending on the browser your surfing with.
You may experience conflicts/problems on one site and not another for all sorts of reasons including where you are located on the internet, type of browser, java version, forum software version, and too many others to really list here in this thread.
If the problem is occasional and not consistent it's probably not worth worrying to much about. If it's real repetitive then it probably warrants more investigation.
Something I do as a quick check is to keep a copy of Opera up to date as my backup browser. If Firefox happens to be slow or locking up on a site, I'll switch to Opera and try it again.
If both are running slow and it's limited to only that site (after making sure and trying it on several other forum sites) I usually report it.

I'm the opposite.... I use Opera as my main browser, (have for many years) and keep Firefox as a backup.
I have no ie.exe on my windblows machine.

I was pretty much the same as you Dangermouse until about half a year ago. I do a lot of work for forum sites and with the newer versions of Vbulletin there were a lot of glitches in all the browsers, so I run them all now for checking on the glitches. I even run Minefield and Chrome strictly for checking.
I fully understand your sentiment on it though.
Just as an example though, Google adsense servers are experiencing some difficulties this AM so some people may experience difficulty's today.

-=chuckle=- Google ads are ALWAYS a problem it would seem, regardless of browser.
I prefer Opera because of the built-in email, and they had a google button way before anyone else, (back then it was an add-on for IE, etc.)
Anyone remember BBS's? heh heh That might give a hint to my age.... Man, that new 14.4 modem is FAST, isn't it? ROFLMAO

Don't think the problems here, were browser problems. I personally tried Firefox, IE and Chrome. They were all the same. I use IE most of the time. On my older computers, I used Firefox, but when Vista first came out, it had compatibility problems with Firefox. Those are supposed to have been fixed, but Firefox seems to be much slower on Vista than IE.

Firefox is certainly slow on this machine, Opera is not.

Usually it's a good clue to it being something on your own computer causing the problem or a combination of internet/site and your computer causing the problem is if other people are replying to the thread saying that they are having no issues.
Depending on the browser your using and if you are on the site you are having problems with a lot, even your addons/plugins or cache/recent history can cause you to experience slowdowns and lockups.
It makes it real hard to "solve" the problem from an Administrators point of view when the problem is not re-creatable on their end. Just for a quick example, the Skype plugins that are widely used can have some major conflicts with some versions and modifications of forum software.
