Posting to old threads

There is a new member posting to 5 and 6 year old threads. Is there any rule on this? Most forums don't allow posting on threads older than 30 days unlless the poster started the threads. If mostly old threads are being posted on, it will drop your ranking to search engines. The spiders only report back on new threads.

This happens occasionally--Usually a newbie who doesn't realize that there is a date at the top of the post----

It's not something to worry about IMO---Someone will speak up and point out the error---

Or suggest that they start a new thread if they want help.

It's interesting to see some of the old posts again.----I doubt if these occasional 'wake ups' will change any rankings.

I would not want old posts closed,myself---a lot of good information exists in the archives--I say let them use the info and add to it.----Mike----

I've seen some forums that have a warning when you go to post on old threads, that could always be added. On a forum I run, threads that are over a year old go in an archive mode where they cannot be replied to.

What probably happens is people find them while searching and don't realize the date and reply.
