Notice on old posts

Fairly often, I notice someone post to a very old thread. I highly suspect they found the thread via google, then they sign up for this site and post a response. It ends up being confusing to some people, and would likely be better in a number of cases if a new thread was started.

Here is one idea; I noticed this on some other site that when a thread is over say 30 or 60 days old a message automatically gets posted to the top of the thread. It says something like "This thread is over 60 days old, new questions, comments and posts may not be noticed, please consider starting a new post".

I know that you could also lock old threads, but that isn't my favorite idea, because sometimes you do want to make a post to or update an old thread.

Just something to consider....

Nothing worse than a three year old post being resurrected! Good idea Jamie.

Zombie threads.

Brought back straight from the dead.

I really dont mind too much if it ads additional info, but sometimes the person is trying to directly talk to the poster who is probably long gone...

Example: "I need help to determine if this Pergo is a good floor, I am buying in 2 weeks."

3 years later.....

"I recommend Wilsonart....good luck!"

Maybe when older threads are newly plucked for resurrection the older threads could automatically display a date in red or maybe a notice to the newest poster telling of the age of the thread they have chosen to add a comment to.:)

Or maybe when someone resurrects a 2 year old thread, it will release a computer virus that will send a nice low voltage charge to the person's keyboard & mouse

It's a good idea... I just need to figure out how to do it.

During the past several weeks notification of additional comments to this thread have arrived in my email inbox. When I open the thread I find nothing has in fact been added since January.

So Nathan, how's it goin' with this project?:)

That's because some jackass tried using the thread for SPAM but one of the mods removed it before you got here.
Happens to me all the time on old threads.

Makes sense, got it! Thanks.:)

That's no excuse for Nathan and his homework assignment tho!:)

And a new notification again today with nothing added to the thread. Weird!:)

Its usually Spammer posts that are then deleted/user banned
There was a bunch of spam today - but not a huge amount
