Is it my computer or what?
Now don't get me wrong, I am a 60 year old, red-blooded, Southern (by the Grace of God) RedNeck, and I will look at a pretty woman, even if she is nude. BUT, here lately whenever I log onto this DIY Chatroom I get a pop-up window wanting me to look at some type of sexually explicit website. NO, NO, I do not look into it. My heart may be weaker than I know about. I just close it out and continue on. Is this something to do with this DIY Chatroom website, my computer, or my websurfer thingy. Thanks, David

sounds to me like you have other problems. i do not believe they would allow ****site popups here..... may help.....

I haven't had that problem.

Its your computer! If you use Firefox, you can down-load an add-on that will block pop-ups!
Internet Explorer 8 will also, but I don't use IE so cannot venture an opinion about this!

No problems here either

But i'd be willing to check out that site to help out

it's most likely malware, and you need to remove it. get avast antivirus, and allow it to do a boot up scan. it should take care of it.
Opera blocks popups too, but blocking won't stop the spyware that's most likely present as well.

Thurman, got any teenagers in the house? Boomerang kids?

I have a Mac. No pop-ups at all. I don't know if this is inherent to Macs or there's some sort of pop-up blocker. My 15 year old daughter does all the tech stuff around here. WAY more computer literate than I am!

If you don't have virus protection I would get some, DangerMouse points to a company that provides a free version of their virus protection software. Additionally I would grab the ad-aware free version from lavasoft found . Avast for virus protection, ad-aware for spyware/malware protection. Keep both up to date. I also suggest completing a full scan once a week with both avast and ad-aware

It sounds like you have spyware or malware rather then a virus. Are you running windows xp or later? If so I would also consider starting their firewall software unless the avast virus protection comes with a firewall.

We don't serve any pop ups on this site. There is probably some adware/spyware on your PC.

Women of easy virtue on the Internet? How could this happen, here in America?

I use the free version of Lavasoft Ad-aware. It does a pretty good job of removing adware from your computer.

It's called "Live Sex-Hot Sex", and it's done it again. A tab opens on the bottom of the screen and then I close it. I use "Webroot SpySweeper/Antivirus" and have done two manual sweeps to find this. It has found it both times, it has put in in quarantine both times, and I have deleted it both times. I have checked my cookies for it but could not find it, not under that name anyway. Let's hope it doesen't come back. No kids at home, this is on my laptop which NO ONE uses but me. I wonder if it could possibly be getting in under some of those e-mail ads I get? Thanks, David

Spybot is another good program for finding nasties.
