Members Count?

It looks like 50% of the members here never made one post. Why not delete the all that dead wood or is it just a marketing ploy to look like you have all these members to new surfers who come here to impress them?

< sighs >
Yeah, you caught us...it's a "ploy"
We are trying to impress surfers by our massive member count
We are so embarrassed now...oh my...let us run away....

< sarcasm off >

But, really...I'm impressed
Having nearly 50% of registered members actually post is really good

dyier 04-08-2008 10:47 PM

but why keep the other 50% on the total members count when they never made one single post? Is it a badge of honor showing off the members number? It's phoney stats!

< sarcasm on >

I bet the guy who joined in 96 will be posting soon.

You would be amazed at who comes out of the woodwork over the years

Some guys are gone for a few years and then 'pop' their back

Kinda like Rocky Balboa

No...it's no badge of honor
Seriously we don't really even look at that
It's total posts that's the "cool" stat...that's what "counts" in the forum world
(though the 50% you mentioned is a good stat for that sort of thing)

Other than that, I agree there's little chance of a "lurker" for the last decade is is out there and never posted before just might post up now
But we aren't going to "kick them out" either
They took the time to register, and decided not to post, that's their choice...we can't make them post

Besides, it not phony...they did register

I'm sure if the room was needed, some pruning would be done
It's just not an issue, and you seem to be the only one who is offended by it

How about a real simple answer;

they have been here to look for information and have found all their answers to their questions by reviewing previously posted questions. The actually register because that causes the site to reaact to them by remembering what they have already read and such and they can subscribe to a thread and have the new comments e-mailed to them. That is a great thing. Some people just forget where a site was and lose it so subscribing with the e-mail to additional answers to a thread will "find" the site for them.

so diyer, do you have any clothes in your closet you don't wear? What are you trying to do, impress somebody with your impressive wardrobe? Get rid of anything you haven;t worn in a couple months or so.

Sounds just like what you brought up here.

This really is a pathetic assumption.

There are many, many posters that come back over time.

Example: I have memberships on a variety of sites. Some, I haven't visited for a while (no time). When I do return to a site, even after it's been a while 1+ Years, I expect my membership and screen name to still be in their system. So do the majority of people who are on the internet, and visit different websites.

I would be pretty irritated, if I returned and found that they had deleted my membership and screen name, and possibly allowed another poster to adopt my screen name.

It's pretty "par for the internet course" ....for websites to reserve and hold a member's username, profile, and membership for a lengthy period of time.

To look at this site alone, and bring that up, while making conspiracy accusations, is completely ridiculous.
