How to post pictures?

I'm familiar with posting pictures (on another forum that is set up just like this one) by attaching files in 'Manage Attachments' and uploading, etc. The site I am familiar with prefers they be resized to 640x480. My digital camera software allows me to do that myself and I then just add the picture to my post. I tried to post a picture that had been resized to 640x480 the other day and it was rejected for exceeding the file size limit or something like that? Can someone please tell me what size works best on here to get a nice size that shows detail, but yet fairly fast to load for viewing?

Thanks Ron. I'll have to do little experimenting. My pics are in JPEG form and those that I have resized down to 640x480 for the other site are still running in the 190-260 KB range.

Find a program that will convert pictures to web format, it will reduce the pix's down to resonable size.

Open up MS paint. Use the strech/strew option to reduce the pictures to the size you want. If you want it half the size type in 50% , 50%, same for any other size enlarged or reduced.
Then go to save as and select .jpg or .gif. It has always done me well in knocking the file size down.

I can only seem to post the link and not the pic.

I use PhotBucket
They have a resize feature that allows you to select Web Forum (or something similar) and it automatically resizes the pic to the acceptable size

as cheap as flash memory is these days, there's no reason to set your camera at anything lower than it's maximum resolution.... I mean that's why we buy these hi tech new cameras, for the high resolution.

You can always go back later and upload it and reduce the size for web use, but you'll still have a high res copy in case you ever want to crop/print it in the future. If you shoot at low quality, you can never go back...

I find that a 500 pixel wide photo is more than enough detail.
JPG compression makes for a nice small photo.

INFRANVIEW (http://www.irfanview.com/) is considered the best free photo editing software out there, it'll do all sorts of resizing and cropping... and it really is free...
