small nose nail guns

I am installing glass channel in a 1929 Franklin. I think a nail gun would help, since otherwise it takes about four hands. The glass channel accepts at most something 1/4" wide. I need a nail gun that handles 18 gauge headed nails 5/8" - 3/4" long, and has a nose 1/4" wide. I have looked at a Paslode gun that would work if the piece on the nose for automatic operation could be removed, so that the gun operated by trigger only. Unfortunately I cannot see how to remove this without destroying the gun. Are there any guns with noses narrow enough, or with removable detents on the nose? Any advice?

I'm not sure of the configuration of the gun you're looking at, but I have a small nailer that I modified by grinding the safety spade down to almost nothing. The safety still works and the mark it leaves is alot smaller now. If it's a wire bail type safety you might try removing it for the one job or cutting part of it away & bending it so it's out of you way but still functions. On most guns these are replaceable parts. If you remove it just be careful, and put it back right away!!

Try a 23 ga. brad nailer. I think the Nikle shoots both pins and brads.

The 23 gauge pins are headless, and 18 gauge with heads were specified, no?

Nope. You can now get a 23 ga brad nailer. I have a pin nailer and use it all the time. The 23 ga. brad nails are supposed to be great and I've asked Santa for one.

Not everybody makes them though. At least not yet.
